The World Series of Poker, or WSOP Poker Tournament as it's commonly known, is the biggest of all poker tournaments - the richest sports prize in the world. It's a no limit holdem poker tournament with a $10,000 buy in that runs for 9 days in Las Vegas. Before the final, there will have been three weeks of other tournaments, covering all the different variations of poker. Any one with the cash to buy in can play in the WSOP. All of the top professional, celebrity and online players compete, and only the bravest and best poker players win through to the final table. Every top poker player wants to win and make this the ultimate achievement in their career.
You may think that this is only for the top poker pros, but it's possible for anyone to win. Most players win their way to the WSOP finals by playing in $220 super-satellite games, which take place over the whole tournament programme. The 2004 winner qualified by winning an online poker satellite tournament with an entry costing only $250, and many poker players make the final by playing online and winning an entry at one of the major poker sites. This does mean that even an unknown player can make the WSOP final. The prizes are fantastic, with big cash for finishing anywhere in the top 30 or so.
