Unless you're only looking for ways to win money for free or are keen to get involved with arbitrage bets that mean you cannot lose, the pursuit of winning extra cash is going to involve the risk of losing some of what you already have. Knowing what level of risk you can accept is a key pointer to how well you might do in trying to win money, and brings us to a point where it's worth looking at the psychology involved in gambling or betting.
As a starter to understanding what drives our needs to try and win money, it's worth first taking a look at the video below which covers some of the psychological aspects involved with giving it away.
Further below we'll look at some of the specific human needs that drive our desires to win. One of the keys to understanding and controlling betting to win activity is to knowing yourself - your approaches to risk, and your potential for becoming addicted to the chase.
The Psychology Of Trying To Win Money
Why Are You Here - What Does Winning & Losing Money Mean To You?
Very few of us don't want the chance to win some extra money when the chance presents itself.
Money gives us choices, doesn't it?
Used wisely, it opens options and it can take away worries. In general, it improves our lives. We need it for the basics, and we need it for those extra luxuries.
The cost of those basic needs and luxuries (or treats) varies from person to person. Some of us need a lot, some need a little, and many need to get somewhere in the middle ground. Winning extra money means something to all of us, whatever the amount.
So what are you looking for? How much money do you need to win to make a difference to you? Why do you want extra?
And more to the point - what is your acceptable level of risk?
The answers to these questions will give you a clue whether any form of exposure to risking the money you do have is right for you.
Let's try to take a look at the different reasons why any of us want to win, and whether it's right to make the attempt. I'll need to generalise here to an extent, buy hopefully you'll see where you fit in.
Remember that in each of these situations there are two risks - that of losing money you do have, and worse of being pulled in to the trap of chasing losses or becoming addicted to the chase. Here we go....
The Reasons Driving Our Needs To Try And Win Money
1. You have no or very little money.
Many of us may find ourselves at a point in our lives where money is tight. That may be through mistakes we've made or just bad luck. But trying to win money if you have none or very little is a very bad idea. As we'll see later, the chances of winning are slim. If you strike lucky then yes, some of your worries might be solved. You probably won't strike lucky.
If that's why you're here, my advice is please don't take the risk. Try and find a different way. I know it's not easy, but there are some ways out. If you have an interest, anything you're passionate about, there is a way you might be able to earn some extra cash. You can visit my contact page, drop me a line, and I'll explain. There's nothing to lose and no tricks.
2. You just have enough money to be reasonably comfortable.
Again, if you find yourself in this position then gambling with any risk to your money is almost certainly not for you. If you know there are some treats or luxuries that you could divert money away from, then in theory you could use this to try and win more. But don't expect to win, and treat it as a pleasant surprise if you do. The basic rule is never gamble with more money than you can comfortably afford.
3. You're in a comfortable position. The basics and some luxuries are covered.
This is a good position to be in of course, and you don't need me to tell you that. The risk of addiction is there for all of us, but it's likely that you can set aside some money which you can afford to lose. Make use of some of the offers and bonuses you'll find on the pages here. Be careful and enjoy it. Study carefully, work out which types of betting are best for you, set an amount you can lose, and don't go over it.
4. You're rich already. You either want more, or it's the excitement that draws you.
